Saber Cover of the Prussian Ziethen Husars - 18th Century

Description

A saber Cover from the old Ziethen Husar Regiment serving under Fredrick the Great.

Leather and felt based with mounting straps, the condition is according to its age.

The Zieten Hussars, formally known as the Hussars Regiment 'von Zieten' (Brandenburg) No. 3, was a distinguished hussar regiment in the Prussian Army, established in 1730 and named after its inaugural Colonel, Hans Joachim von Zieten. Initially founded by Frederick the Great as the 2nd Hussar Regiment, the unit became renowned for its distinctive parade uniforms, which included a tiger-skin pelisse. Company officers wore fur caps adorned with heron feathers, while field officers sported eagle's wings. During the 1806 campaign of the War of the Fourth Coalition, the regiment was temporarily known as the von Rudorff Hussar Regiment before being renamed the Life Hussar Regiment von Rudorff (No. 2).

Very rare item with signs of age.
