Luftwaffe general's sword


Description

Important Luftwaffe Degen for generals. Manufactured by Carl Eickhorn, Solingen. Until the beginning of WWII in 1939, the Degen were awarded personally by Reichsmarschall Hermann Göring.

Beautifully etched blade on three sides with fine ornamentation and the inscriptions "Der Oberbefehlshaber der Luftwaffe Hermann Göring" (facsimile signature) and "In dankbarer Anerkennung" on the other side. Gold-plated letters on a blued background. The plating on the tip is worn.

Orange celluloid grip with intact wire wrapping. No chips or damage. Brass hilt fittings. The ornaments are made by hand. Two folding crossguards, one bears the Luftwaffe eagle (riveted 3 times). The spring for holding the scabbard is missing.

Black leather scabbard with brass fittings. The upper fastening clip on the back for the fitting is missing and the fitting on the bottom has a few smalll dents.

Comes with a matching leather hanger. 

Traces of wear. Most of the gilding is worn.
