Heer M40 helmet with chicken wire and camo paint - Q62

Description

This is a unique M1940 German with well fitted chicken wire and field painted 2-color cammoflage finish.

The helmet was made by FW Quist with a Q62 stamp and the lot number 528. The helmet's exterior remains in its untouched except for the rivets which were replaced later.

The helmet first received a camouflage with bright green darker green  paint before having a well fitted chicken wire net placed over it.  The wire is bound together with a steel ring and steel clips.  the helmet shows significant paint wear and patina but appears to have originally been a double deal example with remnants of the eagle showing through and some scraping over where the national shield was revealing some of the decal.  There is notable paint loss to the top of the helmet and the helmet's rivets appear to have been repainted or replaced as their finish is much cleaner than the shell.

The helmet's interior is in good worn condition. The leather liner is a late war example and while flexible is flaking slightly.   The liner is marked 58 with an R B number and 9 44 which is presumably the late war date of September 1944.

A very interesting helmet.
